If it's rolling, you can't just pick it up?
And then re take the goal kick?

The ball isn't live until it leaves the area from a goal kick so retake would have been correct and not pen

I saw that once too. The defender booted a clearance up the field and one of the oppo bent down, picked the ball up and just ran the entire length of the pitch before scoring. We all just sat around watching him, amazed that this was happening.
But thats what happens when you play rugby for scotland.

I still think the correct decision is to re-take the free kick though.
Bit like the Joe Hart one from earlier in the season.

But the ball wasn't dead.
The referee hadn't blown, and defender picked it up.
I felt embarrassed that we scored the pen.

He was wrong then surely as the ball isn't in play unless it leaves the area.

Interesting one that, shouldn't the correct decision have been to re-take the goal kick?

Cardiff reaping the rewards of picking a reserve team against a mob who lost 7-1 in their last game.
Welsh cunts.

Happened to me as well.
Oppo keeper kicked the ball from goal kick.
Ball was never gonna get outside the box, so the defender pocked it up!
Ref gave a free kick initially. Then I had a word with him and he gave us a pen.
Chaos!

Why is there no one at Cardiff, is there some kind of protest or something?

stirlinghammer 7:34 Sun Jan 10 Re: Sunday Soccer Sold - what about if you pick up the ball with both hands inside the box in a moment of madness?
Ha Ha Ha.... I played in a game in which that happened... our centre half got fouled and picked the ball up thinking the ref would blow up.... he did... for a penalty.... 5 mins of chaos later the oppo penalty taker decided the best course of action was to do a back pass to our keeper ... much to the disgust of half of his team!!

Agreed...from where the ref was standing...no view of contact at all...
Only TV viewers on replay...and fans behind the goal on that side MAY have seen it...
Lino was on the other side of pitch 50 yards away...
Very soft...Ref just wanted to give it...very doubtful...and he should not have done so...

On S4C Digidol now, Cardiff v Shrewsbury. Must be the dumbest scheduling of a game of all time. Of the three sides of the ground that you can see there is not a single spectator. Not one. Above the ridiculous welsh commentary it sounds like there's maybe 200 in there.
There is no way the ref at ******ham could see that 'handball'. He was reacting to Rose screaming (again) for a non-existent pen. He did it earlier when the ball brushed a Leicester players shoulder..

If THAT was a penalty, there should be about 30 every game. Mainly for man-handling/pushing at corners when the ball isn't even in play. (Assault charges! Call the cops!)
Dyer seemed to be regaining his balance. It is quite normal to use your arms for balance when spinning around.
The ball hit his hand when it arrived from behind him. To me.
Nonsense decision.

Usually unintentional means ball to hand. The defender has put his arm across rose to try to block him as punched the ball away. Zero sympathy, definite penalty for me.
Good example of where video technology wouldn't make any difference.

Never a pen !
Sadly that's why the game needs more technology.
